Why Sewing Machine Part of Our Daily Lives

Sewing machines are a part of our daily lives consistently. Often without us even comprehending when or how. Without the technology we have for fabrics, we wouldn’t have the availability nor the convenience for clothes, furniture, and bedding, etc. Workers wouldn’t have work or money, and the opportunity of the creation and mending of items would be lost.

First, we have the obvious: clothing. Every T-shirt, pair of pants, dress, skirt, etc. have all been touched most likely by a sewing machine. Then there’s furniture, such as leather or cloth chairs and couches, rugs and mats, beddings, blankets, and towels, all of different shades and patterns. As you can see, cloths are used in many different parts of the household, as well as every part of our society and daily life.

You wake up from sleep, sit up in bed, and already you’ve been in contact with the sheets, blankets, and pillows. We take showers and step out, grab a towel to dry off. You grab your clothes (underwear, pants, shirt, etc.). Leave the room to sit on a chair, or run to go to your car. Often without knowing or being cognitive of it, we are surrounded by the objects created by sewing machines.

The clothes we wear and buy every day were made by factory workers and machines all over the world as are furniture, beddings, and sheets too. Without these items or use of the machines, there’d be many jobs and livelihoods lost. The unrestricted choices of creativity in clothes, furniture, and so much more would then be stricken and minimized. So the use of these machines and creations of these items are crucial in, not only workers lives but in our everyday lives.

Then there are those of us who obtain and use sewing machines — possessing the power and knowledge of mending as well as creating works of art, in quilts, clothes, toys, and more. With sewing machines, there’s a power of creating something new, especially by the individual. Including repurposing used or older fabrics. Which is more productive for the environment, rather than just casting the beaten cloths to the dump for collection. The rise of trash would only continuously grow in the dumps of our polluted world, as perfectly useable clothes and cloths are thrown away without a second thought.

Without the technology we have for fabrics, we wouldn’t have the availability nor the convenience for clothes, furniture, and bedding, etc. Workers wouldn’t have work or money,  The opportunity of the creation of products and mending of torn ones would be lost, and the rise of trash would only continuously grow. Sewing machines are crucial to the importance and individuality in our everyday lives.
